Athlete’s Foot
Athlete’s Foot, also known as tinea pedis, is caused by a fungus that can be contracted in wet, public spaces. Characterized by a burning and itching sensation in the feet, Athlete’s Foot can be unsightly and painful.
The condition is preventable through careful hygiene practices such as drying feet after showers or baths, avoiding going barefoot in places such as gyms or swimming pools, and wearing proper socks that wick away moisture.
If Athlete’s Foot is left untreated it can lead to severe itching and inflammation that could result in secondary bacterial infections. Seeing your doctor and using prescription antifungal creams are recommended treatments for Athlete’s Foot; however, utilizing over-the-counter products combined with good foot care habits is often enough to keep this unpleasant fungal infection at bay.
